Sporting Kansas City Signs Free Agent Michael Thomas
Former Ljungskile SK player and Olathe, Kansas native Michael Thomas has joined Sporting Kansas City on a free transfer. Thomas' contract with the second division Swedish side had ended this year and the only thing that was holding him back from signing with Sporting Kc was his rights, which were held by the San Jose Earthquakes.
Yesterday, Sporting Kc acquired those rights in a trade that saw Sporting's 73rd overall pick in the 2012 Supplemental Draft go the other way to the San Jose Earthquakes. Michael Thomas was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2010 Super Draft by San Jose but things didn't work out and he left the U.S. for Sweden.
Michael Thomas has Sporting Kc connections with Seth Sinovic and Matt Besler who played with him on a youth team in Kansas City. Thomas also played collegiate soccer with Matt Besler at Notre Dame.
Thomas is regarded as a midfielder but I have seen match reports of him playing all across the back line, especially at center back. Journalists in Sweden also say he is very agile and versatile, they write in a glowing tone when referring to him.

I dunno how related this is to the Thomas signing
(since Sinovic and Thomas played on a youth team together), but Seth Sinovic just inked a contract extension with the club today as well.
Dude went to my high school
I couldn’t be happier with this.
Yes, you are getting out debated by a 17 year old. Enjoy!
Anyone know what KC youth club they played for?
