The rumors surrounding Sporting Kansas City winger Kei Kamara first reared their ugly heads last week with a report by Sky Sports that Norwich City had made an official bid for the 28-year old. Chris Hughton, manager of the English Premier club, then confirmed later in the week and official inquiry had been made.
No official statement or stance was publicly made by Sporting KC, which always left things potentially open in the eyes of many. The only Sporting KC figure that commented on the matter was Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman on Twitter last Friday:
thanks....landing.don't worry about kei.we're going to get something done that works for everybody - including u.#robbontwitter— Robb Heineman (@RobbHeineman) January 25, 2013
Then, the strangest of strange developments came on Tuesday night during the MLSsoccer.com live stream of Sporting KC's second preseason game. Recently signed defender Josh Gardner was brought onto the broadcast as a guest interview during the second half, and had the following things to say:
"We'll miss Kei a little bit with his size," when talking about how his own game might fit into his new squad.
... "with Kei leaving," when asked where he thinks Graham Zusi will fit into the starting lineup this year.
Whatever is going on, expect an announcement of resolution soon.
