It appears that Colombian midfielder Jimmy Medranda is rejoining Sporting Kansas City after all. Medranda was signed by Sporting KC last August on loan from Deportivo Pereira in Colombia but was not on the preseason roster for the defending MLS Cup Champions.
Sources report that Medranda (20) flew to Kansas City today to join up with the team prior to heading to Florida for the second half of preseason.
With Sporting KC releasing five players from the preseason roster last Friday and the signing of Medranda, the team is looking more and more the same as last year.
Medranda made one appearance for Sporting KC in a 3-0 drubbing of Columbus. He entered in the 90th minute and quickly ripped a shot from distance that made fans want to see more.
Former Sporting KC assistant coach Octavio Zambrano was the head coach for Deportivo Pereira and is now their technical director and was instrumental in bringing Medranda to Sporting KC's attention last year.
Medranda was with the youth program of Deportivo Pereira as a 12-year-old before ascending to the senior team.
